DNS Configuration for SwyxPhone L420 (kb2210)
The information in this article applies to:
- SwyxWare from version 3.20
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- SwyxPhone L420
The SwyxPhone L420 must be configured for operation in the network. This can either be done locally on each phone or centrally via DHCP or DNS server.
This article describes how to configure the DNS-server to centrally configure the SwyxPhones L420.
The SwyxPhone query of the DNS server for the SwyxPhoneManager IP address is made via the search string
pbxserver.<domain>whereby <domain> stands for the Internet domain name (analog:
backuppbxserver.<domain> for BackupSwyxPhoneManager). The answer of the DNS server then contains the SwyxPhoneManager IP address.
In this way, SwyxPhone can be notified, in the network from a central location, which SwyxPhoneManager should be used. An entry with the appropriate IP addresses of the SwyxPhoneManager(s) and the host names pbxserver and backuppbxserver must be created on the DNS server.
In order for SwyxPhone to contact the DNS server, SwyxPhone must know the IP address of the DNS server and the domain names for the request to the DNS server. This can be transmitted to the telephone per DHCP using the standard DHCP options or it can be entered into the telephone manually. The latter has the disadvantage that the DNS server IP address must be configured individually for each SwyxPhone device in the network.
