Question

Does the SwyxWare or SwyxIt! support ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) ?

Answer

The SwyxServer does not support ODBC directly but it is possible to use custom VBScript code within the Graphical Script Editor to connect via ODBC to a database. Please refer to the following Knowledgbase articles for further informations

The SwyxIt! client doesn't support ODBC also. To get a client-based connection to a contact database to open contacts on incoming calls SwyxIt! offers three possibilities:

  • TAPI (Telephony Application Programming Interface)
The Swyx TAPI Service Provider will only be installed per default on machines with MS Outlook 98 being installed on it, but can be simply installed afterwards via Control Panel | Software | SwyxIt! | Change Applications with TAPI interfaces are then able to connect to SwyxIt!. Further informations on this can be found in the Knowledgebase article
  • SwyxIt! Outlook AddIn
This is available from MS Office 2000 on and opens e.g. Outlook contacts on incoming calls.

  • Swyx Client SDK (Software Development Kid)
This SDK gives a programmer the opportunity to connect an application directly to SwyxIt! instead of using TAPI. More informations can be obtained in the Knowledgebase article
